ABOUT PFLAG SAN FRANCISCO

We are the San Francisco Chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered people. We are committed to help change negative attitudes and to create an environment of understanding so that all gay, lesbian, bisexuals and transgendered people can live with dignity and respect.

We are a volunteer organization with grass-roots affiliates in more than 390 communities in all 50 states, and with affiliates in 12 other countries. Our membership exceeds 56,000 families. Our chapter has been meeting monthly since 1976, and we belong to PFLAG National, a Washington, D.C. based parent support organization incorporated in 1981.

Our mission is to promote the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people, their families and friends through support, education and advocacy.

Our regular monthly meetings in English y Espanol are the 2nd Sunday of each month, from 2-4pm, at St. Francis Lutheran Church, 152 Church St. near Market, San Francisco. Our meeting location is wheelchair accessible, and is located on the N-Judah, J-Church or 22-Fillmore Muni lines. Enter through the Plaza Gate. We invite you to share your experience and concerns in a completely confidential and supportive environment. For our mutual benefit, we encourage gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people to attend our meetings. For more information, call our HELPline at 415.921.8850, email us
or send mail to P.O Box 640223, San Francisco, CA 94164.

There are currently about 200,000 member families in the San Francisco Chapter and about 30-40 attend our monthly meetings. We break out into small (10-12 person) support groups, and then gather later for a presentation (speaker, video, etc.) Recent topics include: Bisexuality; Gay Parenting; Children of Gays and Lesbians; Radical Activism; Religion, and High School Gay/Straight Alliances. Pamphlets about PFLAG and other gay positive groups in the area are available at all meetings. We are especially proud of our free lending library of hardcover books, videos and audio tapes. Everyone is welcome at our meetings, and refreshments are served.

The San Francisco Chapter has been meeting monthly since 1976. We are one of about 12 chapters in the Bay Area, and one of about 500 chapter/affiliates worldwide. PFLAG members are also available for speaking engagements in churches, schools and civic groups.

PFLAG is a tax-exempt, 501c3 organization. Donations are always welcome and may be sent to P.O. Box 640223, San Francisco, CA, 94164. All members receive our monthly newsletter and can vote.

BOARD MEETING The first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm. Call for directions 415-921-6902.
